Charlize Theron's Top 5 Revelations

2012-05-29 10:13
1. I had rotten teeth
Charlize recently came clean about her childhood dental problems.

"My early childhood was quite devastating. I had no teeth until I was 11. I had these fangs because I had jaundice when I was a kid and I was put on so many antibiotics that my teeth rotted. They had to cut them out.

"So I never had milk teeth. That was tough, you know, being in school having photos taken while I was pretending I had teeth. It was hideous."

2. My dogs help raise my baby
In an interview with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, Charlize revealed that she isn't actually a single parent to new son Jackson.

"From the moment this baby came into our home, those two dogs have never been more in love.

People keep saying, 'Oh you're a single mom,' and I'm like, 'Actually, I'm not. I got two boys helping me out.' It's incredible."

3. Marriage inequality is like apartheid
There will be no wedding bells for Charlize in the near future even if she meets the man of her dreams. If everybody can't do it, then she won't either.

"Marriage is not for me. Until it's equal for everybody, I don't want to be a part of it. I grew up during apartheid and this feels similar.

"Why can heterosexual couples have the legal status of marriage and same-sex couples cannot? That is like having a white water fountain and a black water fountain."

4. I should have trained harder for Prometheus
Charlize has admitted that she was a little unprepared for her role in Ridley Scott's Prometheus. The lack of training, according to her, resulted in a lot of "unsexy" running.

"I probably should have trained a little bit because I found myself in the middle of Iceland having to run with all this heavy gear on my back. It was one take of sexy running and then I was all ugly running.

"Ridley going, 'Run. Run!' was pretty much the ugly running."

5. Oh fuck, I hope I can do this today
The actress says she loved working on Prometheus because of how nervous it made her about her abilities as an actress.

"I do have a sense of fear every day going to work, but I think it's something that I like.

"I mean I do like the feeling of waking up on my own, having this moment of like, 'Oh, fuck, I hope I can do this today' because it makes you realise that you're working with material or you're working with a director or you're working with a cast and they're keeping you on your toes.

"Nothing's kinda like, 'I can do this with my eyes closed' and I think that is ultimately what every actor wants, something that challenges you to that point."

Snow White and The Huntsman lands in SA cinemas on Friday 1 June while Prometheus goes on circuit on Friday 15 June.
