Jacob Wiese throws wedding of the year

Cape Town - "A joyous feast!"

This is how the mothers of the bride and groom described the wedding of their youngest and their eldest on Saturday in the historic Dutch Reformed church in Three Anchor Bay.

The wedding was certainly a contender for wedding of the year as Advocate Jacob Wiese, 30, wed Jackie Hawtrey of Cape Town.

Wiese is the eldest child of businessman Christo Wiese and his wife Caro as well as the grandson of ex-politician Japie Basson and his wife Clare.

Hawtrey is the youngest child of Melville and Dawn Hawtrey who also hail from Cape Town.

Only the best was good enough for this glamorous wedding of 200 guests.

Red carpet feel

All the women’s attire was designed by Errol Arrendz.

The Libertas choir with Zorada Temmingh as organist performed at the uniquely South African ceremony where a Zulu wedding song was sung and the Griekwa version of 1 Corinthians was read.

Arendz told Rapport that the design and creation of the entire female bridal party's garments took almost a month to complete.

"I admit that I also did some of the stitching. It was an absolute joy! My objective with such a big bridal party was to keep the attention focused on the bride. Thus, I used soft beiges for the flower girls in autumn tones, and for those amazing women, Caro, Dawn and Clare, I used a kaleidoscope of colour. None of them are afraid to experiment."

"I wanted to lend a red carpet feel to the women - dresses that they can wear again.

"Jackie’s sensuality had to be emphasised. Her skirt, which she bought overseas, is fine, luxurious and romantic - a fantasy.  I made a classic bustier. Jackie is adventurous, she trusted me completely."

Lanzerac

The mother of the bride said: "We've been crying with joy since Wednesday, when everyone dined together. We wanted a beautiful day for Jacob and Jackie, but for us women, Errol was the star of the show."

According to Dawn her daughter is a lawyer that currently works as a buyer for a fashion house.

Since Tuesday the church grounds were a hub of activity as the garden and church were cleaned and renovated from top to bottom.

Christo and Caro, as well as Japie and Clare, were married in the same church in Three Anchor Bay.

The reception was held at Wiese's Lanzerac estate in Stellenbosch.
