Miley Cyrus: The internet is more damaging than drugs

Los Angeles - Miley Cyrus thinks the internet "hurts your brain" more than drugs.

The 21-year-old singer believes social media - such as Facebook and Instagram - causes more damage to your mental health than smoking cannabis.

She explained: "I put some picture of me smoking weed... on my Instagram because I was brought up in the way that we never thought marijuana was bad."

Cyrus added, "you know what hurts your brain? Googling yourself. You know what hurts your brain? Instagram, You know what hurts your brain? Reading comments on Facebook."

The Wrecking Ball hitmaker - who caused controversy last year when she danced provocatively up against Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards 2013 - doesn't want to be a role model for young girls because all she's concerned about is her own happiness.

In an interview on Australian TV show, Sunday Night, she said: "I don't put myself up on a pedestal and say, 'Look at me, I'm an example.'"

The singer concluded, "The only thing I'm an example of is freedom, especially in this time where the energy of the world is shifting from male energy to female energy."
