Washington - Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies will travel to Hollywood to encourage the US to make films in South Africa.
“There is a number of Hollywood studios that are involved in film making in South Africa so it was suggested that I go and talk to some of the executives,” he told reporters in Washington following the US-Africa Leaders Summit.
“They know us and some of them have been to South Africa already. We will discuss the film incentive, the rebate programme and what we have to offer.”
Davies said he would visit some of the major film studios in Los Angeles.
The film industry was significant in South Africa and accounted for around 25 000 jobs last year, compared to 4500 almost 12 years ago.
“There are many Hollywood films made in South Africa and not just coming there shooting on location but they are increasingly doing work in the film studios and post production work,” he said.
