Local Afrikaans film heads to international festival

Cape Town - The award winning South African film, Musiek vir die Agtergrond will be an official selection during the 2014 Mumbai International Film Festival (MAMI) in India.

MAMI is one of the highlights on the Bollywood calender every year.  It is also one of the most influential festivals and markets in Asia.

Musiek vir die Agtergrond will be the first Afrikaans language film to be selected for the festival and only the second South African film after the film Yesterday, which was also nominated for an Oscar.

The film has already been making waves in the international market.  After having been sold last year to American distributor, D Street Releasing, Musiek vir die Agtergrond also had theatrical and VOD releases in Australia and New-Zealand.

Sallas de Jager, writer and director of the film, is very excited about the possibilities this opportunity can open in future. "It's always a humbling experience to present your work to a new audience.  We hope that this could be a small step in the right direction leading to more South African films being seen in India and Asia."

De Jager and his father, Piet de Jager, founded Bosbok Ses Films in 2009 and since have been responsible for the critically acclaimed and award winning films Roepman, Verraaiers and Stuur groete aan Mannetjies Roux.

MAMI will be hosted between 14 and 21 October in Mumbai, India.
