Johannesburg - The world premiere of the film Leading Lady is due to take place at the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) on 7 and 8 June 2014.
Recognised as one of the top film festivals in North America, the Seattle International Film Festival is the largest, most highly rated film festival in the United States, reaching an attendance figure of more than 150 000 annually.
From the director of Fanie Fourie’s Lobola (Henk Pretorius), winner of the SIFF 2013 Golden Space Needle Award for Best Film, comes this inspiring tale of a teacher and young, aspiring British actress (Jodi Rutherford) who persuades a South African farmer from Brandfort (Kobus Willemse) to prepare her for a role in a major film as an Afrikaans war heroine. The main actors in this film are Katie McGrath (Dracula, Merlin), Gil Bellows (Ally McBeal, Shawshank Redemption), Bok van Blerk and Brümilda van Rensburg.
Director Henk Pretorius was introduced to the South African singer/songwriter, Matthew Mole, by editor Warwick Allan. After scene-placing some of Mole’s music in the film, they simply couldn’t imagine the film without it.
"Matthew Mole’s music has a very unique tonal quality and it fitted the feel we wanted to create for Leading Lady exceptionally well. It’s almost like the heart in Matthew Mole’s music has the same heartbeat than the film we wanted to create," says Pretorius.
A total of five Matthew Mole songs were used in this feature film and his record label, Just Music, and Dark Matter Studios just announced the very exciting news that Mole will be performing at the world première of the film in Seattle.
Mole made South African music chart history during 2013, becoming the first local artist to enter the iTunes album chart at No1 with his debut album, The home we built, produced by Matthew Fink (Shadowclbum, Tailor, Nakhane Tourè) and was chosen as Record of the Day in the UK and A&R Worldwide’s Artist of the Week in the US.
The Leading Lady soundtrack will also be released and distributed by Just Music in conjunction with the official release of the film in South Africa.
Dark Matter Studios released the first teaser trailer for Leading Lady on 28 March 2013. This generated huge excitement and interest from the public and the media, and the official trailer will be released on 30 May 2014 at 12h00.
Leading Lady will hit the local movie circuit on 28 November 2014 and is distributed by Ster Kinekor Entertainment.
The Seattle International Film Festival’s full line-up of films will be released on 1 May 2014.
