Johannesburg - Audiences are clearly excited about the release of Zoolander 2, the sequel to the highly successful Zoolander that hit theatres back in 2001.
The preview for Zoolander 2 has broken the record for the most-watched online comedy trailer in history within the first week of being released.
Paramount Pictures said the trailer for the Ben Stiller-directed film had 52.2 million views on YouTube within the first week of being released. The trailer was launched on 18 November.
ICYMI, here's the trailer again:
Stiller returns as fashion model Derek Zoolander, with co-stars Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell and Christine Taylor reprising their roles.
New cast members include Penelope Cruz, Kristen Wiig, Milla Jovovich, Justin Theroux and Kyle Mooney.
This time Zoolander and his rival Hansel team up to prevent the assassinations of “the most beautiful people in the world” – this includes cameos by stars Lenny Kravitz, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber.
The previous record for the most views of a comedy trailer was 2014’s Dumb and Dumber To, which had 49 million views in one week and stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels.
