What's it about:

With the help of an ex-con, an undercover Detroit cop navigates a dangerous neighborhood that's surrounded by a containment wall in order to bring down a crime lord and the crime lord's plot to devastate the entire city.

What we thought:

In Paul Walker’s last completed movie he does air defying stunts and action scenes, takes on the big bad guys and is driven by a strong moral compass.

It is also one of Paul’s most physically taxing roles the fight scenes are epic!

Set in 2018 in a dystopian Detroit the community is crime-ridden, surrounded by derelict buildings, military compounds and segregated from the rest of the city. It’s an urban wasteland ruled by drug lords.

Lion (David Belle) is a modern day Robin Hood who wants to rid the community of crime and drugs. Lion takes on the drug kingpin Tremaine Alexander (RZA) he steals his drugs messing up a lucrative deal. Tremaine and his men go after him. But Lino is a lean mean acrobatic fighting machine and eludes them time and again. When they kidnap his ex-girlfriend Lola (Catalina Denis) he sets out on a rescue mission. Belle is amazing having co-founded the exercise movement parkour his stunts keep you at the edge of your seat.

Paul Walker plays Damien Collier an undercover policeman. When a military vehicle containing a bomb is stolen he has to enter the underbelly of Brick Mansions to retrieve it. But Damien is also on a mission to avenge his father whom he believes was killed by Tremaine.  Damien and Lino form an uneasy partnership but the deeper they get into Brick Mansions they soon realise that all is not what it seems.

Walker and Belle form a great team they have a good camaraderie and there is some witty dialogue. But this movie isn’t really about the dialogue it really is about the fighting and the awesome stunts. While Belle is clearly the star of stunts Paul holds his own well.

The plot is ridiculously predictable it moves really fast and is offset by chases, fist fights and gun fights. And while the action is the main focus of this film the underlying theme of social oppression is explored throughout.

This action flick will keep you on the edge of your seat and while it probably won’t be a box office blockbuster Paul Walker does shine in his final curtain call.
