Macklemore ‘bummed’ that SA gig got cancelled

Cape Town – American rapper, Macklemore, took to Facebook on Thursday to express his disappointed over the cancellation of the South African TribeOne music festival.

The organisers of the much anticipated event on Thursday announced that they had pulled the plug on the festival citing "site preparation and related infrastructure development required to host the Festival, being the responsibility of the CoT (City of Thwane), fell behind schedule to a material extent. (sic)”

Macklemore, in reaction to the news, posted this message on his Facebook page; “South Africa.. We are super bummed about the Tribe One Festival being canceled. We were really looking forward to this show and hope to have the opportunity to perform for you soon!”

He then added a link to the TribeOne festival’s website where a full statement regarding the cancellation was published.

According to Business Day, the City of Tshwane is shocked by the "unilateral decision" by Rockstar 4000, led by Sony Music Entertainment Africa, to cancel the festival and said that they will be taking them to court to force them to continue with the festival.

A Sony Music spokesperson told Channel24 that they can’t comment at this stage as "this matter is currently the subject of legal proceedings".

Nicki Minaj, who was also set to perform, had not posted anything on social media regarding the news.
