One Direction break download record with new track Fireproof

Los Angeles - One Direction's new track Fireproof has become the most downloaded free song in history - with over 1 million copies being accessed by fans.

The boy band - made up of Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik - announced on Monday that their next LP, Four, will be released on 17 November and they gave their followers just 24 hours to download album track Fireproof.

Following the news, the track - written by Louis, Liam, John Ryan, Jamie Scott and Julian Bunetta - was downloaded an astonishing 1 089 278 times.

The album - the follow-up to the boys' third effort Midnight Memories - is number one on the iTunes Album Chart in 67 countries on pre-orders alone.

Currently, 1D are on their Where We Are world tour and their next stop will be the Pasadena Rose Bowl in California on 12 September.
