Cape Town – When Demi-Lee Moore entered the audition room the judges said she had the name of a star.
The 24-year-old from Durbanville proved that prediction right and made it into the Top 7. Her Idols journey came to an abrupt end when she was voted off, making her the fifth contestant to leave.
We chat to Demi-Lee about her Idols journey, the stress of performing and what’s next.
Channel24:
What did you enjoy most about the Idols experience?
Demi-Lee:
Everything we learned and all the mentors we met. It was awesome! You don’t get to meet all these people on a daily basis. It was so much fun working with Somizi, AKA, Kahn from the Parlotones and Ray Phiri. It was amazing!

How did you deal with the stress of your Idols experience?
Demi-Lee:
Oh my gosh! I am the worst when it comes to stress. It was hard for me to keep my stress under control. It’s tough. It’s a tough environment not knowing every week if you’re going to sing or if you’re in the bottom three. There are so many things going through your mind when you’re standing on that stage. It’s insane.

What did you prepare to perform for you showstopper performance?
Demi-Lee:
I was so excited for this week’s show! I prepared Florence and the Machine’s Dog Days Are Over. It’s an amazing song. It has a theatrical element to it. I’ve been working on that song since May and I have been waiting to sing the song on Idols. It was just so sad that I didn’t get to perform it as my entire family flew out to come watch this specific performance and that’s why I cried.

Will you consider entering a singing competition again?
Demi-Lee:
Idols is the ultimate singing competition so I’m done now. Just the fact that I made it this far is amazing. Money can’t buy this kind of exposure. This has opened so many doors for me. Now it’s just moving forward. I won’t stop singing I will be seeing a few people in Cape Town. You will be hearing and seeing more from me.

If there was one thing you could have done differently what would it have been?
Demi-Lee:
There isn’t anything I would change. Every mistake I made, I learned from it. I was happy every week that I stayed, things just got easier. One thing I would change would be controlling my nerves but I think that it is part of the big experience. That’s how you learn.
