Cape Town – From behind-the-scenes to in front of the camera, local actor Ashmund Martin has his eye set on a career in entertainment.
With a movie already under his belt and a continuity gig on kykNet&Kie he’s an up and coming star to keep an eye on.
We chatted to Ashmund to get to know him better.
You’re relatively new to the scene, describe yourself in 5 words?
Funny, energetic, charming, charismatic and content.
Tell us a bit about the projects you have worked on, your current work and exciting projects in the pipeline.
I worked on a movie last year called Rowwe Diamante. It’s a story about teenage boys and the racial issues they deal with in society. I played Tebogo, who brought comical relief to the story.
Last year I got an opportunity to go to Los Angeles to cover the BET Awards Red Carpet for V-Entertainment. Towards the end last year I was chosen to do a big Castle Lite ad that's still running on TV.
I'm currently working on kykNET&kie as a continuity presenter and I have a movie coming up, shooting will start in July.
Have you always wanted to be in the entertainment industry? When did the bug bite you?
I've always wanted to be an entertainer, it started when I was in school and I knew then that this is what I wanted to do. I started working in TV a few years back as a researcher for a TV show called Kwela on kykNET. I then started working for M-Net and like we say, the rest is history.
Who is your acting idol?
Doreen Morris, she is a phenomenal women who comes from the same sort of background as me and is still working hard and living her dream.
What’s your biggest career dream?
I would like to own my own TV production company where I can tell my stories to the world.
