According to data, South Africa now has a population of 62 million people, compared to 51.7 million in 2011. Minority groups in particular are affected – 72.3% of Indians and Asians, 61.6% of white people and 44.9% of coloureds weren’t counted.

In 2001, when 17% of the population was not counted, the then statistician-general, Pali Lehohla, said that South Africa was “going off the tracks”.
