Embattled Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki has called for calm after he needed to be escorted off the field as angry Amakhosi supporters pelted objects at him once again.

This happened at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday evening as tempers from the stands reached boiling point after Chiefs was beaten 1-0 by SuperSport United.

As early as it is in the season, the defeat, a third one in seven DStv Premiership, has left Amakhosi stuck in midtable and rapidly fading from the title race.

Chiefs are eighth on eight points, trailing leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who have won their opening seven league games by a staggering 13 points.

In one of the videos posted on X by Polokwane-based journalist Lethabo Kganyago, the Amakhosi supporters chanted “Ntseki must go”.

With members of the SA Police Service on guard, some of them holding shields, objects could be seen thrown from the stands near the tunnel as Ntseki left the field.

Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung pleaded with them, but that did not stop the enraged supporters.

One nearly hit Chiefs' security personnel but the official was agile enough to duck an object that was directed at his head.

The first question that Ntseki faced in his post-match briefing with journalists in Polokwane was from Kganyago.

"Is violence towards you from supporters warranted? If you were to talk to the Chiefs supporters right now, what would you say to them?"

Ntseki said:

I think the supporters are disappointed because they look at the performance of the team and the expectation is for us to win games. And if [we] don’t win games like this, like the one we played last week (0-0 against Royal AM), obviously the supporters would be disappointed.

While Chiefs lost the match, they played well and created enough chances to get something from the match and Ntseki pointed to this fact.

He said:

As much as the supporters are disappointed, I think we are having a good team and good game. The players are performing to the best of their abilities, and I think the plan worked out today. It is just that we conceded very early.

Chiefs never recovered from a Terrence Dzvukamanja goal conceded in the second minute of the match.

The incident in Polokwane was the second time in seven games where the Amakhosi supporters, known for many years as peace-loving people, had turned violent towards Ntseki.

After a 1-0 defeat to TS Galaxy on August 20, similar violent incidents happened where Ntseki needed a police escort off the field after the game at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga.

It does not get any easier for Ntseki as he has to prepare his troops for combat against rampant Sundowns in the second leg of the MTN8 semifinal at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday.

Sundowns has the slight advantage of the away goal after the two teams played to a 1-1 draw at the FNB Stadium two weeks ago.
