In this year’s state of the nation address (Sona), President Cyril Ramaphosa reflected on the child of democracy, Tintswalo, to demonstrate the efforts and gains made by the country over the thirty years since the end of the oppressive apartheid regime.

Like me, Tintswalo is a ‘born-free’ and, as such, has gained access to schooling and health care through progressive policy interventions that have transformed our lives in deeply profound ways.
