Sizok'thola presenter back in court
TV HOST Xolani Maphanga and his bodyguard are set to appear in the Soshanguve Magistrates Court, Tshwane, on Tuesday, 21 May, following a postponement for further investigations.
This development comes after their initial court appearance on Tuesday, 16 April, which resulted in both being released on bail of R5 000 each.
The duo, comprising the presenter—who is also a director and owner of Tshenolo Private Investigation company—and Bongani Mkhabela (33), faces serious charges.
They are accused of three counts of attempted murder and trespassing, classified as a schedule 5 offence.
The allegations stem from an incident on 14 March, where they reportedly assaulted a woman and her brother at their Soshanguve residence during a drug search.
Lumka Mahanjana, the NPA regional spokeswoman for the Gauteng division, highlighted that the arrests on 9 April followed after the victims reported the assault.
In court, despite the prosecutor's presentation of their affidavits, both Maphanga and Mkhabela denied the charges and secured bail.
The state, interestingly, did not oppose their bail, which came with specific conditions: no communication with the witnesses and mandatory weekly check-ins at their nearest police station.

Ex-Orlando Pirates star Thandani back in court!
Former football star Thandani "Bibo" Ntshumayelo is set to appear in the Randburg Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 21 May, following his previous court appearance on Thursday, 4 April.
The case, involving an alleged assault on his girlfriend, Itumeleng Alice, in February, was postponed until May to allow for further investigations.
Ntshumayelo last appeared in court on Monday, 5 February 2024.
The 33-year-old is accused of assaulting Alice and was arrested on Saturday, 3 February 2024.
He was subsequently released on R1 000 bail and faces charges of common assault under the Domestic Violence Act.
At the time of the incident, police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed Ntshumayelo's arrest.
Ntshumayelo, who has played for Orlando Pirates for several years following his departure from SuperSport United in 2012, faced a setback in 2016 when he was banned from football after testing positive for cocaine.
However, he was given a chance to return to the sport when his ban was reduced to two years following an appeal.
