ENTREPRENEUR Abueng Mahape (47), better known as Bra Peter, is making waves in the dagga industry.
His adventure started at Cheeba Academy in Joburg, where he discovered the versatility of this ancient plant.
Now, Bra Peter is on a mission to spread knowledge about the cannabis for Private Purposes Bill, often called the "Dagga Bill".
In a chat with Daily Sun, Bra Peter shared that many South Africans are still in the dark about the Dagga Bill, passed by the Constitutional Court in 2018.
As someone who's done his research, he's eager to guide both entrepreneurs and individuals on how to navigate this new landscape legally.
The bill permits adults to use, possess, or grow cannabis privately for their own use. Moreover, on Tuesday, 27 February 2024, the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) approved an updated version of the bill, clarifying the rules for adult private use and setting out specific conditions regarding minors.
Bra Peter from Joburg stresses the significance of recognising cannabis's medicinal properties to make well-informed choices.
"Controlling your medicine means controlling your health," he said.
He's a strong advocate for understanding the different cannabis strains and their unique benefits, whether for business or personal health.

Bra Peter's own cannabis journey began when a friend suggested it for his insomnia. The remarkable improvement in his sleep convinced him of its value, leading him to grow his own supply and share the benefits with family and friends.
Since 2018, he's seen considerable positive changes in his life thanks to cannabis and is keen to highlight its potential.
"I've got loads of ideas that could benefit both the youth and the elderly. Despite the negative views on dagga/cannabis, it's time for our perceptions to change," he said.
