Dlala Thukzin is a sensation behind the DJ decks and now he is stretching his talents to encompass throwing parties.

At this year’s Durban July, he will throw an after-party called SoulLand which is, in fact, expected to be more of a festival than a party.

“SoundLand is the name of the festival. We wanted to have a show that well represents the music scene in our country,” says the iPlan hitmaker.

He says his festival will have some of the best local talents on the line-ups.

“It is a combination of well-established acts and some up-and-coming acts that are doing well for their genre and the music scene currently. We are all meeting at the King’s Park Main Outer field to honour this invite,” he laughs.

This will also be the launch of an idea he wants to see put in place more than once and even beyond the Durban July.

“This is going to be the first instalment of the show and we’re looking at hosting three or four SoundLand shows in a year and different cities with different lineups of course.”

He is brimming with the confidence that is easily detected in his music.

“This is one of a kind, we’re trying to create a different kind of experience and specifically for this one, we’re just adding another party to assist in adding options for the people visiting the city for the Durban July.”

That confidence is matched by his composure when speaking about what it took to see this party come to fruition.

“There’s no particular preparation in terms of music for this show, we just keep trying to improve on the projects that we currently have and see what have ready for the people by the time it’s time for SoundLand.”

He explains how people will say that hosting a festival is quite expensive and that the most demanding thing is trying to manage the financial implications that come with a show.

“The part where you have to convince people to buy tickets and attend your show. To overcome these obstacles, you hand them to God in prayer and allow the process, trust in your brand and what you are selling to your fans, God will do the answering,” he calmly states.

He says this is to be more than just a shindig at the end of another.

“The line-up we have curated for, the event layout and the entire SoundLand experience will be something people won’t forget.”
