Business Head: Fin24 Personal Finance

An exciting new opportunity exists for a smart, tech-savvy self-starter with a keen interest in personal finance to make his/her mark in the digital media arena. Reporting to the Digital Business Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development of a comprehensive personal financial management offering on South Africa’s leading financial web and mobile platform.

You will need excellent project management skills to roll out and manage the development of new innovative digital products and software applications, co-coordinating business, content, marketing, design and development teams to meet evolving business objectives.

A tertiary degree and any experience within financial web and mobile technologies would be a big plus. So too would be an understanding of the unique challenges of today’s media environment – from apps and analytics to social media and paywalls – as you will be responsible for putting together strategies, pitches and presentations for demanding internal and external stakeholders. Excellent communication skills and the ability to deliver quality work under pressure therefore goes without saying.

In short, you’re someone with exceptional energy and digital nous, project management skills, brains, imagination, tenacity, a sense of humour, analytical skills and initiative. The position is based at FinMedia24’s Cape Town office.

Responsibilities

The Business Head serves as the link between the market and FinMedia24’s product delivery teams. The successful candidate will:
  • Work closely with the marketing department to perform product/market analyses and maintain an in-depth understanding of industry trends and best-practice offerings on a global scale.
  • Identify new areas for product growth based on market and client research.
  • Identify big picture development tasks and create appropriate subtasks for the development team to ensure that the objectives are met in a measurable and manageable process.
  • Translate customer requirements into product specifications and backlog requirements that can be actioned by engineering teams, whilst also working with these teams to ensure that the development calendar is progressing as necessary to deliver against the product backlog.
  • Facilitate the explanation and understanding of user stories to team members, including process flow and wireframe specifications; and participate in sprint planning by presenting product backlog details to the team.
  • Control and optimise workflows to ensure the frequent rollout of product enhancements and developments.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain the Finmedia24 web and mobile platforms including Fin24.com, Sake24.com, Miningmx.com and Squeezeback.com.
  • Manage projects and the rollout of new technologies on these titles from inception to launch.
  • Support the digital sales function.
  • Put together strategies, pitches and presentations for demanding internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide a key liaison roll between the business manager and business heads, IT, marketing and editorial.
Requirements
  • A tertiary degree.
  • Experience in publishing or account management a big plus.

Data Project Manager Job Specification

McGregor BFA is seeking an experienced Data Project Manager at their Johannesburg branch to take ownership of externally sourced data and drive its use in products. This position will report into the Business Head of the corporate product suite and will facilitate the continuous enhancement and maintenance of all external price data sources through a talented team of developers, testers, business analysts, and technical writers using Agile/scrum methodologies. The ideal candidate comes to us with strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of market data for the various financial instruments listed on the local and international exchanges, a strong financial and/or investment related background and experience as a Data Manager.

Responsibilities

The Data Project Manager serves as the link between the various external providers of market / investment data and the delivery thereof via the company’s products.  The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Owning and managing relationships with external market data suppliers.
  • Understanding market data for the various financial instruments listed on exchanges and  liaising with database specialists in processing and storing data appropriately.
  • Monitoring data quality.  Specifying and managing automated alerts to identify anomalies in data.  Working with suppliers to query and resolve such issues.  Devising alerts to trap future instances of anomalies identified.

Requirements

As the Data Project Manager you will need to be able to demonstrate experience in:
  • Detailed knowledge of financial and investment market data.
  • Experience in a brokerage, asset management, market data vending or similar environment.
  • Creating relationships with external data suppliers, clients, prospects and internal areas (sales, pre-sales, professional services).
  • Work with internal areas (development, database specialists, etc.) to manage the ongoing processing and maintenance of all external market data received.
  • Serve as the “market data expert” for internal business and development staff members.
  • Work with sales department in prospective sales situations.  You will conduct site visits and presentations as necessary.
  • Strong Business Analyst skills.
You will have:
  •  A BCom or similar business degree.

  • Systems testing.

  • Market research.
  • Writing of specifications, user guides and marketing material.
  • Internal training.
The above functions will be supported by a talented team of developers, QA staff, business analysts and technical writers making use of Agile/Scrum methodologies. These methodologies allow for quick response to market developments and requirements as well as flexibility in producing products.

Responsibilities

The Product Manager serves as the link between the market (general trends, competitive positioning, clients and prospects) and the product delivery capabilities of the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Product/market analysis and improvement to include an in depth understanding of industry trends and work with market participants in the real time and trading space to identify areas for product enhancement.
  • Conduct requirements analysis.
