Cape Town - Agri-Expo Livestock takes place from November 6 to 8 2014 at Sandringham, Stellenbosch.
This country event brings agriculture closer to the public and the programme is packed with activities that are tailor-made to showcase the meat and dairy industries, from different breeds of animals to food demonstrations by famous chefs like Pete Goffe-Wood from Masterchef South Africa.
Kids can visit the milking parlour and see first-hand how cows are milked or they can try milking a mock-cow by themselves.
Take the time to engage with live animals and see if you can tell the difference between a Holstein, Jersey and Ayrshire. Get close to purebred Angus cattle or visit the indigenous goats and sheep or miniature horses that will be displayed at the event.
A carefully developed schools programme for primary school learners will make this event a learning experience, expand their knowledge of the livestock industry and intrigue them to consider a career in agriculture.
Hundreds of animals will take part in dairy cattle and Angus breed championships in the Nova Show Arena, where they will ultimately compete for the sought-after Absa Dairy Queen of the year and the BKB Beef King and Queen of the year titles.
Tickets are available at the gates at R30 for adults, R10 for children between 7 and 18 years and children under 7 years are free. Gates open daily at 09:00 and close at 17:00.
