London - British lender Barclays said Wednesday that first half net profits surged 68%, despite a poor performance at its investment banking division.
Earnings after taxation hit £1.13bn in the six months to June, compared with £671m a year earlier, Barclays said in a results statement, but added that the investment bank unit was hit by a major restructuring.
