Dearborn - Ford Motor Company is recalling almost 400 000 vehicles because of a problem with a door that could unlatch while driving.
The company issued a safety recall in North America for approximately 390 000 2012-2014 Ford Fiesta and 2013-2014 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles due to the door latch issue.
"The door latch in these vehicles may experience a broken pawl spring tab, which typically results in a condition where the door will not latch," Ford said in a statement.
This then creates the potential the door may unlatch while driving, increasing the risk of injury.
Ford said it is aware of an incident where an unlatched door allegedly "bounced back" when a customer attempted to close it, and another allegation of an unlatched door "swinging open and striking an adjacent vehicle as the driver was pulling into a parking space".
Dealers will replace all four door latches at no cost to the customer.
