KFC sparks frenzy in Zim

Harare - The newly opened KFC outlet has sparked a frenzy among Zimbabweans.

The KFC outlet in the outskirts of Harare’s CBD is the first in Zimbabwe after more than a decade absence.

The new outlet, which opened on Sunday (July 20), has seen hundreds of Zimbabweans jostle to grab a bite.

Most Zimbabweans are accustomed to KFC’s food from neighbouring South Africa where most of them often go for cross-border trading or to see millions of friends and relatives who now live in that country.

The KFC reopening this weekend follows the entry of popular South African franchise Mugg & Bean last year.

The retailer is reportedly planning to open about 25 outlets in Zimbabwe.

Businessman Kevin James - owner of Consolidated Farming Investments and a leading investor in the fast food sector in Zimbabwe - is behind KFC’s reopening.

Analysts said the coming in of KFC is likely to put pressure on prices and the quality of food on local giant Innscor, which runs its own fast food business under the Chicken Inn brand.
