Johannesburg - Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (Outa) chairman Wayne Duvenage has resigned as Avis rent-a-car chief executive.

"Yes I can confirm that," he said in a telephonic interview. "I will continue in my role as chairman of Outa."

July 31 will be Duvenage's last day at Avis.

"My relationship with Avis is strong as it has ever been," he said.

"This is a decision that I have been contemplating for some months now and it's time for change and I'm a believer in change."

The Gauteng e-tolling project was recently halted after Outa filed an urgent application in the high court in Pretoria.

The court granted an interdict preventing the SA National Roads Agency Limited from levying or collecting e-tolls pending the outcome of a judicial review.
