Eskom moves to stage 2 load shedding

Cape Town - Eskom announced on Wednesday that it would move from Stage 1 to Stage 2 loadshedding.

The Eskom media desk told Fin24 that it would move to Stage 2 at 18:05 and that this was due to a lack of generating capacity.

Eskom initiated Stage 1 load shedding earlier than communicated on Wednesday, starting at 16:12 instead of 17:00, and said that it would likely continue until 22:00.

"Eskom would like to assure customers that load shedding is implemented as a necessary measure to protect the power system and to ensure that maintenance is carried out in order to guarantee that our supply of electricity can be maintained in the long term," the power utility said.
