No load shedding on Friday

11:20 update:

Cape Town - No load shedding was scheduled for Friday, Eskom said.

"The system is collectively stable at the moment with a medium to high possibility of load shedding. The reason being we still have not recovered some of the generating units down for maintenance," spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe said.

"However, we do expect an increase in demand later in the day, but so far we have not scheduled for load shedding."

Eskom urged consumers to use less electricity.

08:30 update:

Cape Town - Eskom has announced a medium to high risk of load shedding for Friday.

"With the return of some power station units, today's prognosis for load shedding is medium to high," the power utility said in a tweet just after 08:00.

In an earlier statement, Eskom noted that although stage 2 load shedding stopped at about 21:30 on Thursday, restoration of power takes longer in some areas.

"The electricity supply system remains very vulnerable due to a shortage of generation capacity as several units are currently out of service due to planned and unplanned outages.

"Any unforeseen incident in the power system will thus trigger the implementation of load shedding," Eskom said.

It reiterated that as Eskom is currently experiencing its maintenance season, the power grid is expected to remain constrained for the rest of the summer.
