Bonds a tad firmer, volumes thin

Johannesburg - South African bonds were slightly firmer in midday trade on Wednesday, as they tracked the rand.

At 11:50, the benchmark R157 bond was trading at 6.705%, from its close on Tuesday of 6.710%. The R207 was bid at 7.805% and offered at 7.775% from a previous close of 7.795% and the R186 was trading at 8.300% from its close of 8.315%.

The rand was bid at 7.6378 against the dollar from its previous close of 7.6467.

"The rand is providing a positive boost, but it's exceptionally quiet - volumes are really thin," a local bond trader said.
