A lone female elephant is being tracked in the Knysna forest by SANParks, with plans to introduce more.

Elephant numbers in the forest have declined – with between 400 to 500 recorded in the late 1800s. This dropped dramatically to about 20 in the early 1900s, which has declined steadily since, according to SANParks.

SANParks, however, has been able to capture camera footage of a female elephant in the forest, at least every two to three weeks. She is always by herself.
