Mining and chemicals company AECI says it is on track to expand its international footprint as it seeks to higher growth opportunities outside of its home market of South Africa.
This year, the company that makes explosives and detonators for miners says it will increase its presence in Brazil and enter other Latin American countries while targeting a greenfields operation in the US.
AECI, like most South African companies, is pressed to find higher growth opportunities to reduce its exposure to a lacklustre economy that has been starved of adequate electricity provision for almost two decades. The railway service has deteriorated sharply over the past three years, exacerbating logistics problems for the transportation of bulk goods from the mines.
