Transnet hopes to reach a wage agreement with labour soon without being forced to concede to demands it cannot afford, CEO Portia Derby said on Thursday as workers began to down tools.
"What we are hoping is that we would be able to reach an agreement sooner rather than later, without us having to buckle and cause greater stress to Transnet," Derby said in a rushed presentation to the Joburg Indaba on Thursday, as an unprotected strike commenced at Transnet operations.
