Discovery has launched malaria benefits and funeral cover across the seven African markets in which it has been operating. It launched these businesses on the rest of the continent in early 2022.
Vitality Health International, essentially the group's rest-of-Africa health insurance arm, launched an expanded product offering that includes wellness incentives along with its Vitality Malaria Benefit and Vitality Standby-U funeral cover in Lusaka, Zambia on Wednesday. The expanded product offering will also be rolled out in Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Mozambique, Nigeria, Tanzania and Ghana.
"Malaria is obviously a huge burden across our footprint and when we look at our claims data it stands out as one of the areas where there are the most claims," Emma Knox, CEO of Vitality Health International Africa, told News24. "When we speak to HR directors from the corporates that we cover it’s one of the main reasons that people have time off sick, either looking after themselves or their family members."
