From doctor-vouchers to R11 000 surgeries: Netcare has big plans for new business

It started with doctor-consultation vouchers in 2020. At the time, in the middle of a pandemic, it might have seemed like a way to help alleviate any cashflow woes its associated doctors might have had as people stayed away from hospitals, afraid of contracting the Covid-19 virus.

But in the 2021 financial year, Netcare put a R3 million capex behind that business and will increase that to R5 million by the end of September 2023. That's over and above the R176 million that the company will spend on operational expenditure for that business between 2020 and 2023.
