As major telecoms companies jostle for dominance in the fibre broadband market, an emerging player – co-founded by former SAA chief executive Vuyani Jarana – has identified a gap in the market.
Ilitha Telecommunications wants to beat bigger players by taking fibre to the homes of underserved communities. It is launching in Mdantsane township, near East London in the Eastern Cape, on Tuesday, and will deliver uncapped fibre to homes from R5 per day.
It has already connected thousands of township homes to high-speed internet – including hundreds of informal dwellings.
