Over the past two years, government has been touting infrastructure projects of up to R2.3 trillion, a move welcomed by the construction industry, which has been in need of a revival.

And for cement producers, the projects come with an added benefit, following government’s requirement that only locally produced cement be used on state projects. For a moment, it seemed as though these "shovel-ready" projects could soon be under way. But PPC CEO Roland van Wijnen says progress on these has been slow.
