The wave of debate around Covid-19 vaccination mandates at the workplace took a detour to the retail sector this past week as a branch of retail giant Pick n Pay in Wellington, Western Cape, said it would look to have all of its employees vaccinated by the weekend.

This comes as various companies have instructed employees to get vaccinated for Covid-19 in order to be allowed to continue accessing the workplace, as a fourth wave of the pandemic sweeps across South Africa, spurred by the Omicron variant.

The National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac) on Tuesday announced a recommendation that government introduce vaccination mandates at the workplace, as well as limit public gatherings and events exclusively to vaccinated people.
