SABC narrowly missed 'blackout', parliamentary committee hears

Public broadcaster the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) nearly faced a blackout for its television and radio channels last year due to its financial challenges, according to board chairperson Khathu Ramukumba. 

Speaking at Parliament's Committee for Communication and Digital Technologies on Thursday, Ramukumba said the board was handed a notice three months after it had been appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa in April last year about the possibility of a blackout. 

The SABC was briefing the committee about its corporate plan.
