Eskom claims that some of the expert findings in a bombshell National Treasury-commissioned report into the poor performance of the country's 14 coal-fired power stations are wrong.
Generation executive Eric Shunmagum said the power utility plans to formally respond to multiple "inaccuracies" in the report by VGBE – a globally recognised industry standards body situated in Germany that has experts with decades of experience in the power industry.
One of the dire warnings in the 600-page report was that the country is at risk of losing more than 13 000 MW of generation capacity - equal to 13 stages of load shedding - at the Medupi, Mathimba and Kendal power stations due to the poor condition of water treatment plants.
