A judge has ruled Eskom to be in contempt of a court for not reconnecting fibre optic cables to Broadband Infraco (BBI), the state-owned entity which provides wholesale broadband to private and public customers.
The High Court in Johannesburg this week again ordered Eskom to reconnect the fibre optic cables it leases to its fellow state-owned entity.
In a scathing judgment, Judge Ingrid Opperman said Eskom's defence had been so poor she "might have been inclined to grant a punitive costs order" against the utility, had it been asked for.
