While we applaud restaurant owners, managers and chefs for responding to criticism
and negative comments, sometimes we receive feeback that leaves us a little... well... frightened.
We received the following email to our editor's inbox in reponse to the recent
Spur and
Steers furore. It starts off with some interesting points, then it gets down to the real nitty gritty of what goes down in some restaurants and the ending... well lets just say I hope I never unknowingly buy a spit-burger from this place.
Read for yourself the email:'As an owner of a franchised restaurant myself, could not help but take this Steers debacle of comedy of errors at face value,The public in general when something so tempting comes their way, show what utter pigs they can be,for goodness sake how many burgers can you eat? 100 were ordered by one person ,others 50 etc.Have any of these people been inside a fast food kitchen? You would not last under the pressure for more than an hour. Imagine yourself being in a hot kitchen for an 8hr shift, the heat, working on top of one another etc I assure it is not pleasant. Can just imagine the pressure the staff at Steers outlets suffered, granted they should have restricted them to 4 per customer,so they made a mistake, what is the big deal.
To the lady who mentioned Spur is just there to make money, well lady of course they are ,why in heavens name do you open up a bussiness in the first place, you need a free lunch go to a soup kitchen or the SALVATION ARMY,don't know if they still exist.
As I said at the beginning of my letter I am an owner of a franchised steakhouse, would just like to let you know of some of the stupid, idiotic complaints we get, (This burger does not look like the picture, I am a qualified chef that burger does not look like the picture, lady does it take a rocket scientist to make a burger, bviously in your case yes. To another client who had lmost eaten his entire meal, then decided the meal was not to his liking,he was made to pay and got a free coffee, it could not have been that bad if he almost finished it before complaining) our portions are big.
We have had instances that people get up and leave without paying,I hope you realise that the poor waiter has to pay half the price for your meal.
No this bussiness is not for the fainthearted, absolutely yes to everyone we are in it for the money. To earn that money we work up to 15 hour days. So if Spur ,Steers,Wimpy or any other fast food restaurant puts you off then please do us a big favour eat at home, we don't need your bussiness.
Disgruntled Restaurant owner.
P.S Hope all your burgers got a springling of spit to go with your order it happens you know'
Now, what do you think?
