Ouagadougou - The governor of the northern region of
Burkina Faso says at least 30 people from the Peul ethnic group have
been killed, and about 1 000 displaced, in ethnic clashes on the border
with Mali, a nation whose administration has been left in tatters after a
coup two months ago.

Kalil Bara said on Thursday that the clash between the Peul, who are
traditionally herders, and the Dogon, who are farmers, erupted two days
ago in the village of Sari, located 15km across the border in Malian
territory.
According to state-run radio, some of the victims were burned alive.
Under
Mali's recently ousted president, who was himself a Peul, the herders
were allowed to cross Dogon territory on special paths. After his ouster
in March, a dispute began over those rights.
