Benghazi - Libya's interim leader, Mustafa Abdel Jalil, has undergone a
successful hernia operation and is in good condition, doctors told AFP
on Monday.
"The operation, which was very simple and lasted no more than a few minutes, was a success," said doctor Jamel al-Talhi.
Talhi
said Abdel Jalil was in "good health" after the Saturday operation and
needed just a couple of days rest under medical supervision.
Abdel
Jalil was admitted on Friday to the hospital in Libya's eastern city of
Benghazi after suffering a drop of blood pressure which he and doctors
attributed to work-related stress.
The former justice minister was an early defector of Muammar Gaddafi's regime and led the nation through last year's war.
Abdel Jalil has threatened to quit if elections for a constituent assembly, which are scheduled for June, are not held on time.
