Fraudsters crippling Kenyan insurance sector

2012-07-03 10:16
Nairobi - Heritage Insurance Company’s Senior Claims Manager Boniface Irungu is now proposing the creation of special courts to deal with fraudsters who are crippling the sector.

Speaking to Capital News while presenting a KES22.7 million payment to Cimbria East Africa Limited as claims after a fire incident, Irungu revealed that Heritage faces at least five fake claims per month.

Irungu went on to appeal to the Insurance Regulatory Authority to spearhead the action, saying that the move would greatly deter fraudsters as for now there was no punishment mechanism.
