Body of a fisherman who went missing one week ago after he drowned at Kinyaole in Magarini district in the Indian Ocean has finally been found at beach in the neighboring Tana Delta District.
Baya Thoya went missing one week ago after the boat they were using with his two colleagues who escaped death narrowly when they managed to swim to the beach capsized due to strong sea currents.
The deceased was accompanied by his two colleagues during the incident which has led to his loss of life Lali Mohamed and Furaha Ngumbao both from Magarini district as they had ventured into the Indian Ocean for fishing expedition.
According to Magarini District Commissioner the deceased body was found along the beach by fishermen who had gone fishing in the area on Wednesday.
He said the deceased body was swept by strong sea currents from Magarini to the neighboring Tana Delta district because of the existence of strong wind in the Indian Ocean which he added are dangerous for fishermen.
"Its like the sea i currently rough and fishing activities are not advisable to be conducted because the incident took place due to strong sea waves that cause boat of the three fishermen to capsize but two managed to swim while their colleague died that why we have advised fishermen to wait until the ocean is calm so that they can go to fish," he noted.
Malindi police boss Kiprono Lang'at said that already they had given the body of the deceased to his family for burial arrangements as per their Islamic laws.
"At least the body was found and his family has taken the body for burial. But we are still urging fishermen to wait until the sea is calm for them to continue fishing because the strong winds are dangerous so that more tragedies of that nature can be avoided," noted Malindi OCPD.
The trio had ventured into the sea for their daily activities of fishing at Kinyaole in Magarini District when their boat swept by strong sea waves and capsized where two of them struggled and swum out while the other one went missing before his body was found.
It is not the first incident where fishermen boats capsizes due to such problems in the Indian Ocean especially in Malindi and Magarini district where fishermen have lost their lives.
