All the six MPs from Nakuru county backed by the Kenya National Union of teachers- KNUT have rejected a list of 241 teachers  who were recently selected for the employment by the teachers service commission.

In a press conference in Nakuru today, MPs Joseph Kiuna – Molo, Luka Kigen - Rongai, Nelson Gaichuhie - Subukia, Zakayo Cheruiyot - Kuresoi , John Mututho - Naivasha and Lee Kinyanjui - Nakuru town said that the selection exercise was marred with nepotism and corruption thus their decision to condemn it.

They said that the list presented by the TSC was suspicious in that most of those selected did not originate from the districts listed .

They said that a meeting between them and TSC representatives early today resolved that the entire exercise be repeated and a follow up meeting convened in three days.

Kiuna said that Molo and Kuresoi constituencies had the biggest number of teachers short fall owing to the post election violence.

He said that it was surprising to see that out of the 61 slots allocated to Molo constituency, only 3 and 7 people from Njoro and Molo districts respectively were selected .

He said that the move was a total violation of the constitution and that they would not allow that to continue.

KNUT Nakuru branch executive secretary Njau Kuria Njau said that Nakuru county alone has  a shortage of 2000 primary school teachers thus recruitment of only 241 teachers was “a big joke.”

He said that this was one of the reasons why KNUT officials gave the government a 7 days strike notice.

He said that TSC had flouted the set guidelines regarding recruitment of teachers since the selection panel did not put into consideration minority communities and the disabled.
