2012-07-03 07:03
Nairobi - According to Capital News, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has threatened a nationwide teachers strike if the government fails to start negotiations on new salaries for teachers and to implement an increase to allowances as agreed in 1997.

KNUT Secretary General David Okuta said on Monday that teachers should prepare to down their tools soon as the union sorts out procedural issues before it announces the strike date.

Teachers should by now have received various allowances including house allowances (50 percent of basic salary), medical allowance of 30 percent, and commuter allowance of 10 percent and 30 percent allowance for areas gazetted as hardship areas.
