Student accuses UCT rugby player of assault

accreditation
*Update: Women24 has been informed by a spokesperson of NWU that Ms. Agathagelou is not a student at NWU, but rather of a different academy in Potchefstroom.

A student of the North-West University, Irini Agathagelou, has accused UCT student Kyle Kriel of assaulting her the night Ikeys won the Varsity Cup.

She posted a message on Facebook to Carte Blanche, in which she alleges that Kriel and his friends assaulted a NWU player and when she stepped in to help her fellow student, Kriel punched her in the face. She also claims to have video evidence where the assault can clearly be seen, as well as eye witnesses. She suffered from a concussion, neck injuries and had to get five stitches in her face.

Agathagelou also criticises the hypocrisy of the rugby players who played in pink shorts to create awareness for violence against women, only to commit an act of violence on the very same day.

The University of Cape Town responded on Facebook with the following: "UCT takes this matter extremely seriously. We are investigating. We ask anyone with information to please inbox us their details and we will contact you immediately. Thank you."

Women24 has contacted Kyle Kriel and we are awaiting his statement.
