Cape Town - A motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma was predictably defeated by an ANC majority in the National Assembly on Tuesday.
The motion had been brought by DA parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane.
A total of 221 voted against it, 113 were in favour, and eight abstained. Voting on the motion was delayed after it was discovered that the electronic voting system was not working.
"The system is freezing, so the engineers have been called," Speaker Baleka Mbete told the House.
She later elaborated: "They are in the basement attending to it."
After about 10 minutes, the problem was solved and voting took place. It is the second no-confidence motion brought against Zuma this year.
The first was brought by AgangSA last month, but was suddenly and controversially withdrawn by the party's Andries Tlouamma minutes after he started speaking in the House.
