  • "It did affect me deeply," Penn Badgley says of the sexual assault allegations against his You co-star Chris D'Elia.
  • The comedian was accused last week of "grooming, sexually harassing, and soliciting nude pictures" by multiple women. He denied the allegations.
  • Penn said he hoped the Netflix show wasn't creating a "haven for people who are abusive" calling the thought of it "very disturbing".

Penn Badley is speaking out about the sexual assault allegations made against his You co-star Chris D'Elia.

Last week the comedian made headlines after several women accused him of "grooming, sexually harassing, and soliciting nude pictures".

He denied the sexual misconduct claims.

Chris stars alongside Penn is Netflix's You, and plays Henderson, a famous celebrity who preys on a 15-year-old girl in the show played by Jane The Virgin star Jenna Ortega.

In an interview with the LA Times, Penn addressed the allegations and said the first thing producers did was reach out to Jenna "to make sure she felt safe".

"I would hope that at least our show is not serving to uphold these kind of, like, bunk ways of being and these systems," he said the psychological thriller series.

He added: "The idea that a show like ours would indirectly, unwittingly be a haven for people who are abusive is disturbing. It's very disturbing. What does it take to change that? Because it's not just vetting individuals. There needs to be a change in culture and attitude so that that kind of behaviour is so clearly reprehensible, it's so clearly, like, anti-human."

He also spoke about Chris, reports Deadline, saying he was "troubled" by the news. "It did affect me deeply."

He said: "I don't know Chris. I know that, if there's anything we need to do in this age, it's to believe women."
