Less than two weeks after the abdication of Queen Margrethe II, the Danish royal house has posted a tribute to Countess Athena on her 12th birthday.
The countess, who celebrated her birthday on Wednesday, is the only daughter of Prince Joachim and Princess Marie. In 2022, Margrethe II stripped the royal titles of her youngest son Prince Joachim's children, according to AFP.
The reason behind stripping the titles was to let the Prince's children live normal lives. The names of his other children are Nikolai, Felix and Henrik.
The Danish royal house posted two pictures of Athena on Instagram, where she is outside enjoying the snowy climate in Washington DC.
Prince Joachim and his family relocated to Washington in 2023, where he took up a new job at the Danish Embassy under the Ministry of Defence, according to People.
"Her Excellence Countess Athena has a birthday and turns 12 years old today," the Royal house wrote in the caption.

"In honour of the birthday, the Countess' mother, Her Royal Highness Princess Marie, photographed her daughter at the family home in Washington DC," the caption added.
Prince Joachim's brother, King Frederik, acceded to the throne on 14 January, with the new Queen Mary by his side.
