Wiseman Mncube 'honoured' to have played Mandoza in upcoming biopic

Award-winning actor Wiseman Mncube is honoured to have played the role of Kwaito legend Mandoza in BET Africa's (DStv 129) upcoming biopic premiering next month.

Nkalakatha: The Life of Mandoza premieres on the channel on Wednesday, 16 August, at 21:00.

"The weight of portraying an icon was heavy on my shoulders," Mncube wrote in the caption of a teaser of the biopic. 

"I felt a deep responsibility to honour his memory and pay homage to his legacy, and I am honoured to have been chosen for the role."

Mandoza, real name Mduduzi Tshabalala, died in September 2016 at age 38 after battling cancer. Per IOL, the Respect Life hitmaker lost his eyesight two weeks before his death.

In a separate post, BET Africa wrote: "The story of Mandoza, itsotsi yase Zola, will give you verstaan that your township dream is valid. Experience the Kwaito superstar like never before".

Per Sowetan, The Queen actor Lorraine Moropa stars as Mandoza's widow, Mpho. The report adds that Lillian Dube, Dawn Thandeka King, Mzambiya, Khotso Phosa, Lindo Sithole, Phineas Bullets and Fanele Zulu make up the supporting cast.
